Lightning Protection Systems attract lightning
Lightning Protection Systems do not actually attract lightning. What they do is intercept the strike and provide a preferential path for the lightning strike's harmful electricity to travel safely to the ground, meaning the strike will avoid structures, occupants, and equipment.
Surge Protectors are enough to protect from a lightning strike
When lightning strikes, it packs a punch. A standard lightning strike can contain up to 200 kA of electrical energy (or over 100 million volts of power.) No surge protector alone is enough to protect against this. In order to provide complete structural protection, a surge protector must be installed alongside a grounding network, as this network is what will direct the strike to the Earth and away from your building. Without the full system, the strike will likely hit your building and potentially cause upwards of thousands of pounds worth of damage.
